Skeptical Investigation

Your Lunch, Delivered in 10 Minutes or Less

None We’re lovers. You know that. But every now and again, something comes across our desks that just seems... suspicious. Because of the tremendous material upside to all our lives if these claims pan out, we at times put ourselves in harm’s way to investigate. Albeit skeptically.

We call it: Skeptical Investigation. (Trademark pending.)

THE CLAIM
That Berkeley-based meal-delivery app SpoonRocket, previously only available in the East Bay, will now get a fresh meal to you in SoMa—in 10 minutes or less.

THE INVESTIGATION
1:31pm: Our most decorated mobile-lunching expert downloaded the app, entered credit card info, then sat on a park bench at Mission and Spear. There’s always two menu options, one with meat and one without—this time it was lasagna with pork ragù or tortellini with pesto. In about three taps, lasagna was on the way.

1:32pm: Estimated delivery time says 10 minutes. Seconds later, it’s revised (uh-oh) to four minutes (oh).

1:35pm: The car’s location was visible on an in-phone map (like Uber), and there it was in reality: a SpoonRocket car with a big red flag and a meal from a backseat heater, right as a text came through: “Enjoy your meal.”

THE VERDICT
1:36pm: Happiness that only comes from lasagna promptly delivered to a park bench.
