Ode to ’Roy
A Late-Night UES Cocktail Refuge

It’s cold again.

Plus: Monday.

Sorry.

Here’s some gin to soften the blow...

Give a warm, thirsty welcome to The Gilroy, the new Negroni capital of New York City, now open on the UES.

Six. That’s how many Negroni variations you have here. Including aged, bottled ones for two people—and those are a critical component of how you’ll want to experience this place. You meet someone. They tell you they live on the Upper East Side. You briefly panic. Then you remember, “Oh, right, we can share a bottle of ginny goodness at the Gilroy.” Close call.

So your job is simple. Show up. Give a knowing wave to the fellas behind the small, copper-topped bar, and beeline for the banquette in the red-brocaded back room. Coziness will ensue.

And Negronis aren’t the whole story. Bacon salt, gold leaf and pineapple-and-coconut salt air are all parts of other, non-Negroni beverages. You can stick around until the wee hours to finish up some mac and cheese and what’s got to be the UES’s only 4am beef Wellington. And that contraption hooked up to the beer taps: it increases hoppiness. It’s called the Hopinator.

Yup, one of those classic beef-Wellington-and-Hopinator dates.
