Getting Paid to Exercise

None This is the year.

The year when you finally fulfill that lofty resolution to exercise more.

For the love of fitness. For the love of deltoids. For the love of all the body oil manufacturers of the world.

But mostly, for the profits.

Introducing GymPact, an iPhone app that’ll make you money every time you meet your workout goals, ready to pump you up now.

It’s basically just a little extra motivation to keep you sticking to your 2012 workout plan by introducing something extra into the equation: hard cash.

It’ll happen like this: you’re going to commit to showing up (read: checking in, Foursquare-style, on your phone) anywhere from one to seven days a week at any gym you want. (If your gym isn’t in the app, you can add it.) Then you’re going to make a bet of up to $50—on yourself. In the unlikely event that something gets in the way of you meeting your bench-pressing destiny that week (dinner reservations, floor seats, Breaking Bad marathon, etc.), you’ll fork over that bet into the pot.

But think positive. Let’s say you do meet your goal. You’ll get money. Money supplied by, well, the less iron-willed masses who don’t make their goals.

It’ll make them stronger.
