On the Road
Bangkok Street Food and Cocktails in a Bag
So tonight, you’re looking to get a little... weird.
Allow us to suggest a quick jaunt to Thailand. Via South Beach. For cocktails in bags.
Make your way to Patpong Road, a gritty, red-lit lounge reminiscent of the infamous Bangkok strip, opening tonight.
This place was the original Buck 15 spot. Good times... from what you can remember. Anyway, the 50 Eggs crew has replaced it with an illicit lair of Thai-ness. Sultry red lights. Black leather banquettes. Racy ads splashed up on the walls. That sort of thing.
To find it, look for the door covered in license plates in the alley behind Khong. Open it. Take the stairs up... and to the bar. You’ll be greeted with some Prince. Depeche Mode. A little Run-D.M.C. Your drink: the subtly named Laid-ee (rum and fresh juice) served in a ziplock bag. You: trying not to look ridiculous with an adult Capri Sun in your hand.
At some point, you’ll work up an appetite. Good news for your stomach: they’re dishing up Thai street food here. Pad thai. Drunken rice noodles. And pretty much anything you can skewer on a stick.
The ziplock bag’s probably not a great idea.
