Whiskey and Waffles in Hollywood

None 5 Photos Wood and Vine
This week, Oscar chaos reigns on Hollywood Boulevard.

Totally shut down for blocks. Gridlock in every direction. Just trying to cross the street, you got tangled up in a random dog leash with a stylist, a bell cart, three assistants, 17 lattes and Javier Bardem.

You need an escape from the madness, preferably involving whiskey and waffles.

Good news: a few blocks east of the Kodak, an old-timey enclave of Sazeracs and sunsets is here. Wood and Vine soft-opens tomorrow.

If you’re relaxed by the smell of whiskey, antiques and duck-fat fries, this is the refined neighborhood bar for you. It’s the kind of place you’ll come by for an early dinner before a Pantages show across the street, heading up to the balcony for a low-lit table covered with shareable plates of house-cured charcuterie, oxtail lasagna and Chicken and Waffles with Maple-Roasted Squash. (The chef’s from Bastide, so you’ll allow the modification.)

But this is first and foremost a bar, so it’s also good for a classy-but-boozy date you want to keep going until 2am. In that scenario, you’ll lead your coconspirator past the bar and out to a seat by the fire pit in the hidden courtyard. They’ve got plenty of rare ryes, whiskeys and bourbons to work through (try the 20-year Pappy Van Winkle), and the lemon juice in your gin-based Aviation is hand-squeezed to order.

Or you could always just drink some whiskey at the bar.
