Barn None
Dinner Partying in a Sunset Strip Barn
Let’s say you get a voicemail.
Your reception isn’t great—it never is at Busey’s place—but you could swear it involves a candlelit
dinner party... in a rustic old barn... with Rachel Bilson... something something olive trees... on the
Sunset Strip.
Other than the Bilson part, you heard everything right. Welcome to
Eveleigh, a grand feat of
rustic-hipsterdom, officially opening tonight on Sunset.
Picture an industry dinner party in a swanky hillside barn, and
that’s
something like Eveleigh. (The name is pronounced like “everly,” by the way; the owners, who are also
behind the NYC bar Kingswood, named it after an up-and-coming Australian suburb.)
So when you want to catch up with a dozen of your most Strip-worthy friends, stroll through the garden patio
out front and meet up at the bar inside for a round of
Poor Carlitos (tequila, lime, honey and
smoked sea salt). Everything’s old and reclaimed―the Douglas fir floorboards came from a 200-year-old
church―so your drinks will feel a bit more historic.
Once everybody’s shown, it’s time for
Pot-Roasted Clams and
Braised Beef Cheek. There
are some tables around the bar, but the best seats for dinner are on the peak-roofed porch beyond. The
central communal tables work for group dinners that’ll go long, but for more intimacy you’ll want to
escort your date all the way back by the olive trees and herb-and-vegetable garden.
Nothing foreshadows romance like basil.
