Going Green
Renting Out an Irish Island

It’s time to think back. Way back. All the way back to Thursday.

You sang “Danny Boy,” drank unusually colored beer and arm-wrestled Van Morrison.

But somehow, you can’t help but feel like you missed out on the true meaning of the day.

For starters, you’re pretty sure it involves private islands...

Introducing Inish Turk Beg, a haven of whiskey and sailing off the western coast of Ireland, taking reservations now.

You’ll have 65 acres of green pastures, rustic cottages and homegrown whiskey, entirely at your disposal. But first, you have to make a decision. Either go for one of five cottages—ranging from a modernist mansion to a three-room bungalow—or just buy out the whole thing.

If you go the “whole thing” route—and we see no reason why not—then your only company on the island will be a pair of caretakers, a flock of sheep and a dangerously large supply of the island’s official whiskey, distilled just across the bay. They released their first batch of single malts this November—so they could probably use an official taste-tester.

In your downtime, you’ll have more than a hundred islands to explore, which you’ll do with a Dart 16X catamaran from the marina. The closest is Clare Island, a couple miles north, which happens to have a 16th-century pirate’s castle on the premises.

Eye patch not included.
