You're no stranger to having beer for dessert, but dessert in your beer is another matter. The downtown British gastropub is serving up tall glasses of stout with four scoops of either Madagascar vanilla bean ice cream or stout ice cream. We hear stout goes well with more stout.
The folks who brought you last fall's English-inspired Tweed Ride are back, and this time, they're asking you to don your seersucker. The starting line of this bike ride is still TBD, but they'll wind up at the Hillwood Estate on Rock Creek Park for picnicking, badminton and croquet. Oh, and enough booze to bring out the best in your badminton game.
Run the gauntlet of the tourists on the Mall, and find your reward on the other side: a family-style crab feast on the lawn of the Mandarin Oriental. Dished up by the folks at Sou'Wester, you'll find roasted blue crabs, boiled shrimp, ham biscuits, fried chicken and homemade ice cream. Feel free to salute the nearest flag.
Summer means softball, beach rentals and occasionally skipping out of work entirely. (We won't tell.) Also: competitions involving meat. Café Saint-Ex and Bar Pilar are hosting an afternoon chili extravaganza on Saint-Ex's patio that pits their two chefs against a gaggle of interlopers. But really, when it comes to big pots of meat, there are no losers.
We feel compelled to mention that the K Street favorite turns 12 next month. But only so we can tell you that they're serving a dozen mid-Atlantic oysters—all dressed up with basil, ginger, chives and cucumber—for $12, every day in June. You'll be in bivalve rehab by July.
