You Luft Me Up

Four Floors of DJs and Crab Cakes on H Street

This city’s come a long way, but we’ve still got a ways to go. Like, you can’t even get a crab cake and some shrimp hush puppies at your DJ-and-cocktail lounge.

Wait, check that. We’re hearing that you can now get exactly that.

We’ve reached the pinnacle.

Here then is DaLuft, a four-story, all-purpose house of music and seafood, opening today on H Street.

If Bettie Page were around today, she might want to set up a photo shoot here, what with all the birdcage-looking chandeliers, the leopard-print walls and plenty of high-backed leather banquettes.

So yeah, not a bad spot for a nightcap. Claim a stool at one of the small granite bars, grab some Caribbean-style wings and some hush puppies, and take in the nightly music—could be a DJ, could be a live jazz combo.

Or make an evening out of it at a table along the stone-tiled wall, where you can delve into the menu for Creole crab cakes and lamb lollipops with mint jelly.

In coming weeks, they’re opening two more floors, plus a top-floor balcony nicknamed the “White House.”

It’s not quite Obama’s balcony, but still.
