The United Nations of Restaurants

UD - Cities 3 Photos Cities
Sure, you enjoyed your all-American meal last week. But nice as marshmallow-covered yams are, something more... worldly is now in order.

We’re thinking some cuisine from Beijing, Havana and Athens. All at once.

Say hello to Cities, a chameleon of a new downtown restaurant, now taking reservations for a Monday opening.

We know, the name may be familiar. You may have cocktailed at the late restaurant of the same name in Adams Morgan, when it probably transformed from Paris to Istanbul in between your visits. Similarly, the menu here will change every season, so your hot-and-spicy Latin date night over Cuban Suckling Pig with Plantains could be your Russian-style power lunch over sturgeon in the spring.

But for now, you’ll wander into a room where dark steel dominates, take a seat at one of the orange, ostrich-hide chairs in the lounge and order up a round of Greek Mojitos, with Metaxa and brown sugar.

From there, you’ll descend to the romantic lower level, which is ringed with flat-screen images of the current cities. You’ll set up in one of the plush booths (the far corners are the place to be) and order up fare from the three cities like Peking Duck Dumplings and Conch and Lobster Ceviche.

Of course, the Washington, DC, portion of the menu will remain permanent, in case you’ve got a hankering for strip steak with creamed corn and twice-baked potatoes.

Your Icelandic date wants to try that exotic American fare you’ve been talking up.
