Standing Pat

The New Patios in Town

Good news: April has brought a bumper crop of new patios. Well, it’d be better news if the weather would cooperate, but still. We’ve rounded up a few new favorites, including some all-weather stalwarts—silver linings and all that.

Unite Urban Grill
FOR RIBEYE

Unite Urban Grill

The scene: A 14-seat marigold-accented oasis stretch of Chicago Avenue where dogs are welcome.
The provisions: Think ribeye for dinner (especially if you let your pooch order) and a new Sunday brunch with hanger steak and eggs. (This is where we delicately avoid making a hair of the dog joke.)

DryHop Brewers
FOR BEER. LOTS OF BEER.

DryHop Brewers

The scene: A 16-seater on a lively stretch of Lakeview with wooden tables, red metal chairs and, conveniently, a Chicago parking meter box because... well, it’s Chicago.
The provisions: Buttermilk fried chicken (from a new chef) and a wheat IPA called Shark Meets Hipster. We’re gonna need a bigger glass...

Ranalli’s
FOR ALFRESCO PIZZA PARTYING

Ranalli’s

The scene: A canopy of trees shades this massive brick patio, which you’ll appreciate during the day. Twinkling lights illuminate them at night, which you’ll appreciate during dates.
The provisions: Thin-crust pizza, Italian sausage, parmesan buffalo wings. The usual things that lead to romance.

Packing House
FOR IFFY WEATHER

Packing House

The scene: White tablecloths set the scene on this West Randolph Street terrace, which takes inspiration from Miami. A retractable roof helps, since the weather is inspired by Chicago.
The provisions: Charcuterie and cheese, sirloin Wagyu, a good rum punch. Works in either city, really.

I/O Urban Roofscape
FOR ROOFTOP FIRE

I/O Urban Roofscape

The scene: You’ll find a snug terrace, a retractable roof, multiple bars, cabanas and a fire pit. Use all as necessary.
The provisions: Lamb lollipops, aged-cheddar burgers, bottles of champagne. The rooftop trifecta.
