Late-Night Burgers and Drafts in River North

Taste of Chicago...

A civic rite. A bacchanal of food. A thing that... there’s a good chance you’re going to skip.

It’s okay. Sometimes you just want a burger and a beer served without any fanfare, tourists or Emmylou Harris.

Coming right up: Woodhaven Bar and Kitchen, a proudly stripped-down, wood-paneled, old-fashioned neighborhood tap house in River North, now soft-open.

You’ll find it in the old Fedora Lounge space. Which, as you may recall, had aspirations to be a bottle-service, DJ-fueled something or other. Well, it’s simply a watering hole now. And happy to be one.

There’s a long concrete bar. Plank after plank of walnut lining the walls. Four TVs. All you need, really. They’re also doing a sturdy menu of burgers, sliders and nachos. Kitchen’s open till midnight, so they’ll just see you when you get there. No rush.

You’ll find glasses that look like PBR cans reserved for the regulars and a handful of local brews like Lagunitas and Goose Island for everyone else.

So come alone. Bring a friend. Bring 10 friends who want to relax after work and watch some ESPN over a bison burger or some mac and cheese with a choice of yellow or white cheddar.

Yep. Both kinds.
