Whiskey and Duck Tacos in Wicker Park

Whiskey-filled ice cubes: terrific.

Underground cocktailing in disused bank vaults: a fun night out.

But sometimes, you want simple. You want a beer. Some whiskey.

And if someone twists your arm into sampling a bacon flight, you might as well.

Welcome to Bar Bar Black Sheep, offering a friendly wake-up call to the little neighborhood watering hole, opening tomorrow.

Located in the former Ezuli space on Milwaukee, you’ll find the room transformed into a striking little one-room den with soft leather banquettes near the front window and a knotty bar of rough-hewn maple as the main attraction. Well, technically, it’s what’s behind it that will attract you.

They’re focusing on just the good stuff—oak-aged craft ales, boutique whiskeys—without making a big deal out of any of it. This is the kind of spot where you can order an aged whiskey with a splash of soda without some mustachioed hipster raising his eyebrow at you (after all, how one chooses to open up scotch is a very personal matter).

But if you’re looking for something square, solid and familiar for dinner, turn your attention to a surprisingly ambitious menu of duck tacos, Angus burgers and flat iron steaks. And then there’s that bacon flight, a pairing of three different slabs (jalapeño, applewood, black pepper) with three different styles of beer.

It’s as if Match.com was in the kitchen.
