Bubble Tea and Asian Sausage on the Westside
Raise your hand when something seems off:
Sausage, eggs and coffee.
Sausage, sauerkraut and beer.
Sausage, Korean-chili-paste Rice Krispies bars and bubble tea.
If you didn’t raise your hand, sorry. There’s nothing we can teach you today.
As for everyone else, put it all together at Ssam Sausage
, a new fast-casual spot that’s breaking
down Asian-inspired sausage barriers by doing a bunch of unnecessary but totally necessary things with them,
opening Monday on the Westside.
is like a blown-up version of those little Zen sand gardens. Grass pots on a
shelf. Pale wood tables and counters. Rows of neatly placed silver stools. It’s all very
more-than-meets-the-eye by design.
Oh, and it’s in some weird little plaza. So maybe preface bringing someone here with a “Just trust
me.” Then, when they’re midway through a Saigon
(Vietnamese lemongrass pork sausage
with jalapeño and sriracha) and look all happy, don’t say
“I told you so.” Just go get some bubble tea instead.
Partly because they’ll have it there, but mostly because they’ll be making two kinds a week that range
anywhere from root beer float to banana split to Cookies for Santa
Twenty bucks says that last one happens in December.
