Tomo Sushi Does Buckhead... Finally

Once upon a time, there was a little sushi spot called Tomo.

You know the one.

That magical Japanese wonderland helmed by a former Nobu apprentice who doesn’t roll sushi, he simply... makes it so.

Well, it’s closed now. Gone. Sayonara.

But hey, don’t look so sad...

It was all just a warm-up for the big dance otherwise known as Tomo Sushi Buckhead, chef Tomohiro Naito’s long-anticipated reentry into the glorious world of sushi domination, scheduled to soft-open next Friday at the Ritz-Carlton Residences in Buckhead.

It’s a beauty, this one. The kind of place your date will feel right at home gliding around in something black and slinky—floor-to-ceiling windows, towering stone columns, dark wood tables and cream-colored booths.

And you should let her do that. You know, pour each other a little sake. Bide your time over lobster carpaccio and fluke sashimi with ponzu jelly. It’s a solid and appropriate play for a place like this. But seeing as you’d hate to disrupt the sand-to-beach ratio, you may be better off rounding up a few comrades and grabbing a piece of the never-ending sushi bar off to the right.

You can expect a similar menu to that of the old spot for the first few weeks. Which means that, for the time being, you’ll be weighing the night’s options over anything from seared baby abalone to Squid Ink Rolls with shiso and roasted red pepper.

Unless you had squid ink for breakfast.
