Afternoon Tea at Double Crown

Afternoon Delight

Not Your Little Sister's Tea Party

Once upon a time, man drank tea.

This was a noble and gentlemanly endeavor carried out in antique drawing rooms, exotic reaches of the British Empire and probably a few houses of ill repute (tea was tough like that).

Now, don't get us wrong—we're not trumpeting the three-tea lunch over the three-martini lunch—but there's something nice about knowing the option is out there. Especially when we know someone is in the back spiking the tea…

Welcome to the newly minted Afternoon Tea at Double Crown, kicking off tomorrow.

Picture, if you will, a garden table under the cool breeze of a gently turning ceiling fan. Potted plants, dark woods and exposed brick surround you, sucking you into a seemingly sophisticated afternoon soiree. Then your tea shows up. Over ice. With mint, cucumber and the familiar sting of gin hinting that you're not at your little sister's tea party anymore. Next, a few dozen oysters arrive, followed by a small army of finger sandwiches, some more spiked tea, and before you know it you're heading into Saturday night (or back home...) with a renewed interest in cricket.

It's the kind of day—slowly and languorously getting sauced with a like-minded hussy—that may just be a new go-to weapon in your date arsenal when the typical boozy brunch won't cut it.

Don't worry, Bloody Marys will always take you back.
