Red Wing Heritage Iron Rangers. “After about two years of consideration, I finally bought some Red Wing Iron Rangers. I guess it took those two years, the first cold day of the season, a helpful store owner named Stan and the fact that Red Wing has now been in business for 111 years for me to pull the trigger. It’s that 111th year where companies tend to really hit their stride.” —Kevin Gray

Slicker Than Your Average Slicker. “It rained last weekend in California, which was good news for many reasons, but the best news was that it turned out I had this really great rain slicker hiding in the deepest corner of my closet that I had totally forgotten about. This very rain slicker from Tretorn, to be exact. Well, not exactly exact, because mine’s navy and the only one they’ve got left at the moment is bright yellow, but you get the gist. Also, you’re welcome if you happen to be an XL or in need of a last-minute Gorton’s Fisherman costume for the weekend, because it’s on a pretty solid sale. For the rest of you, I’d suggest waiting on a restock.” —Najib Benouar

Oliver Peoples Had an Annual Sample Sale of Frames Friday. “All of its frames were $150. All Paul Smith frames were $100. I was ready to elbow my way into the crowd. To push. To shove. To blacken a few eyes if I needed to. (Yes, I’ll hit people wearing glasses when it comes to buying sale designer glasses.) But when I got there, the store was relatively calm. Fine. Still, I went nuts. I bought three pairs, including a pair of sunglasses and something that looks like what they call the Executive I. I didn’t even need to throw a punch.” —Chris LaMorte

Worldwide Aura Blanket. “I recently acquired this, because my old throw blanket didn’t have a trio of bananas, tiny palm trees, Lisa Simpson and a Nike symbol digitally printed onto it—and once I knew one of those existed, it had to be mine. I really don’t know why this random smattering of images brings me joy, but oh, how it does.” —Ilana Dadras

Shopping in Canada. “I spent last week in Montreal, taking in the city’s architectural splendors, climbing the mountain in the middle of the city, partaking of its culinary delights and, most importantly, reaping the benefits of the weak Canadian dollar at the city’s finer menswear shops. Style mega-site Haven has a shop there, so I went nuts and picked up two pairs of sneakers from the Adidas x Wings + Horns collection, and my girlfriend went HAM at the vintage shops. If you’ve got some vacation days left, head north.” —Geoff Rynex
