Every Good Bar Should Have a House Shot. Even Yours.

Friday Happy Hour: Lemon-Ginger Bourbon Is Involved

It’s the oldest law of nature.

Infuse one thing with another thing to get a third thing, and your party guests will be impressed.

Okay, maybe it’s the second-oldest law. Or more of a guideline. But the point is this:

Here’s a cocktail sporting bourbon that’s been infused with ginger and lemon. It’s known simply as the House Shot, and you can find it at either West LA’s Wellesbourne or at your own house. That part’s up to you.

But if you’re attempting to recreate it for yourself, you’re going to need a recipe.

Hey, look.

The House Shot

2 oz lemon-ginger bourbon*
1 oz Mathilde Crème de Cassis
1 oz fresh lemon juice
1/4 oz The Bitter Truth Pimento Dram

Add all ingredients to a shaker. Add ice and shake vigorously. Strain into shot glasses. Serves three.

*Lemon-Ginger Bourbon

1 L bourbon
2 large lemons
2 pieces fresh ginger

Cut lemon zest from two large lemons. Slice ginger into two-millimeter-thick pieces. Place lemon zest and ginger into a large container, and add one liter of bourbon. Place container in refrigerator to infuse for 12 hours. When ready, fine-strain to remove any ginger and lemon particles before using.
