Your New Thai Wine Bar on Sunset

Vermouth Shots, Pork Neck Satay and Japanese Puzzles

Oh, strip malls. Do your wonders never cease?

Case in point: Same Same, a welcoming new Sunset Boulevard bar where you can get riesling and cider with your Thai street snacks because that just seems like a thing that should happen. It opens Thursday in, yes, a Silver Lake strip mall, and here’s the slideshow.

This is the love child of Rambutan’s chef-owner and some bar pros you may know from spots like Honeycut, the Wallace and Copa d’Oro. They seek your company in this warm, woodsy little bar between the blown-up photos of graffitied box trucks and that giant gold-leaf Buddha head. Can’t miss it.

Should be a good time, too. It’ll be heavy on Jay Z B-sides, rock, bluegrass, tidy neighborhood beards and inked women. So pop in with friends. Order a shot of chilled vermouth or sherry. Then back that with a cold beer or cider or some crisp riesling or txakolina. Everything will go with your pad see ew or pork neck satay. They’ve seen to that.

And once you meet someone worth meeting, there’s an icebreaker in the form of these little metal, interlocking Japanese puzzles you’ll be challenged to take apart.

There’s probably a metaphor in there somewhere.
