Sherlock.

Larry.

Prominent Holmeses, all of them.

But none of them served strawberry-jalapeño bear claws.

Not the case for Mr. Holmes Bakehouse, a sparkling pastry shop freshly baking inventive sweet things that go with your coffee, opening tomorrow in Highland Park. Check out this visual sugar rush.

Maybe this place is a big conspiracy. A well-regarded San Francisco bakery showing up in Northeast LA bearing big pink boxes of delicious carbohydrates. Wrapping it into a shiny rectangle shingled in subway tile and witty neon. All to lure you in. Very clever, Holmes.

Perhaps you’ll stop by to see what everyone’s up to. Early, to get ahead of the crowds. Your reward will be something like a churro croissant, a muffuletta Danish or one of those strawberry-jalapeño bear claws with an espresso. The menu will constantly change, but you can see where this is going.

Enjoy your pastries at the slim table up front. Or stuck on the freeway like a normal person. Just make sure to bring a few of their signature cruffins (cream-filled croissant dough baked in muffin tins) to your 12 o’clock.

Of course there are cruffins.
