Wait. Here come the grits. They’re at Due South, a gleaming new spot down by the ballpark. It’s got an affection for all things Southern, and it’s soft-open every night starting tomorrow.
This is an industrial-meets-rustic spot where you’ll see subway tile, lights made from peach baskets and chandeliers made from rope and chain hanging over a big, rustic communal table. (See what we mean here.) Unless you grab one of the 80 seats on the L-shaped patio. Then you’ll just see the nearby fountain.
And maybe some dejected Nats fans. Pay them no mind, and just heed what’s on your table, like shrimp and grits, blackened catfish and all kinds of smoked meats from the massive red smoker oven in back—Memphis ribs, pork shoulder, 12-hour brisket.
And when baseball season gives way to football season, you can gather at the bar on Saturdays, when they’ll focus on the SEC. And you’ll focus on plenty of beers from SEC country, like Terrapin, Abita and Shiner.
