San Antonio.

Our friend to the south.

It’s got a lot going for it these days, and we’re not just talking about tacos and LaMarcus Aldridge (though both are formidable). We’re talking about this compelling new place to rest your head.

Make a weekend of it at Hotel Emma, just the finest brewery-turned-hotel that San Antonio’s ever seen, taking reservations now and officially opening in October. (Attractive slideshow here.)

And more details here:

It’s housed within the old Pearl brewery, which dates back 121 years. Don’t worry. They’ve renovated.

You’ve got 146 rooms at your disposal. They kept some of the building’s original bricks and wood, but they added beds and couches and stuff.

Try a suite. Maybe one of those two-story, top-floor numbers with private terraces. Just our two cents.

You won’t go hungry. Because they’ve got a restaurant full of fresh, seasonal things. A bar that’s doling out cocktails and snacks. And a market filled with local goods, house-butchered meats, beer and wine.

It’s named for Emma Koehler. She ran the brewery for nearly 20 years.

Just in case anyone asks.
