Hard Knocks

Like the Clapper, but Better

By UrbanDaddy Staff ·
None Knock, knock.

Oh, sorry, this isn’t a joke.

Didn’t mean to get your hopes up.

We’re just turning out the light.

Repeatedly tap on wood for Knocki, a Texas-made device you can program to perform tasks (send a text, start the coffeemaker) simply by knocking, available for preorder now and slated to ship in December.

Remember the Clapper? Of course you do. This is kind of like that, except you knock instead of clap. And also, it does a lot more stuff than simply turn lights on and off.

It works with all kinds of things like your phone, alarm clock and thermostat. And when the device recognizes a specific pattern of knocks, it’ll carry out whatever action you want it to. So just hook it to a surface, sound a knock and voilà: something happens. Something like:

—Knock once to start some mood music whenever mood music would be advantageous.

—Knock twice to activate an alarm when you leave the house.

—Get a text when someone knocks on your door.

—If you lose your phone, knock “Shave and a Haircut” to make it ring.

Your dog’s gonna hate this thing.
