A Southern Charmer from Blythe Beck

You hear “pink magnolia,” you probably think of flowers.

But we haven’t eaten yet, so all we can think about is bacon-cheddar meat loaf.

That’s something you can find at this particular Pink Magnolia, just the brightest, happiest new Southern restaurant in Oak Cliff. It opens for dinner tonight on West Davis. (Take a look inside.)

Blythe Beck, she of Central 214 and Kitchen LTO, is your chef. And that means you’ll be confronted with upscale comfort foods like roasted chicken and shrimp and grits. You’re very much okay with that. (See the menu.)

This inhabits the old Driftwood spot. It’s different now, to the tune of green chairs, a reconfigured bar and an open kitchen. If you want to supervise your dinner, request those four counter seats. Otherwise, the black-and-white booths should do the trick. Basically, anywhere you can fit yourself, a date, some bourbon cocktails, Texas lamb chop lollipops and a chicken-fried ribeye. To start.

If you’re thinking: “Hey, it’s almost patio season. I like patios.” Well, same page. They’ve got an enclosed, air-conditioned patio, plus a little outdoor spot with tables and a couple of suspended porch swings.

That’s about as patio as it gets.
