We can’t just tell you dress shoes are better when they’re handmade; when a craftsman had to painstakingly cut, shape and burnish each piece of leather; when he had to gingerly hammer in the sole that took days to create. That’s one of those things you just have to feel to believe.
Then: C Chicago was C Chicago. Now: It’s called Ocean Cut. Then: It was fancy. Now: They brought in Dirk Flanigan to build an entirely different, more casual menu. Lobster sausage. Bone-in ribeyes. New-and-improved shellfish towers. Then: You were happy. Now: Considerably more so.
Joy District is many things. A restaurant. A bar. A club. A club-within-a-club. But it’s not a rooftop
lounge.

Huh. We’ve just received word that they’re opening their rooftop tomorrow and celebrating with gratis
tastings. So we were wrong before. We’re glad we were wrong before.
Things you’ll say this Friday at Raised, the Renaissance’s spectacular new rooftop bar: “Look at this view.” “Good thing there’s an entire decanter’s worth of berry-ginger mint juleps.” “This is easily the best place I’ve ever eaten truffle fries and a duck banh mi in.” “Wish it was just a little warmer.”
We know, we know. The words “adult-size ball pit in a downtown alleyway” don’t exactly scream “normal thing” or “not sketchy.” But we promise, it’s all in the name of art. In particular, the type of art you touch, poke and bounce on while drinking and dancing to DJs. Postmodernism, right?

Coppe: Elaborate gelato sundaes topped with things like crumbled chocolate cookies and wild
cherry juice.
Granita: Frozen ice drinks in refreshing flavors from mint to coffee.
