The Sportsman’s Club Guys Just Went Latin on You

The rhythm is going to get you.

Of that we’re sure.

But say, for some unforeseen reason, the rhythm fails to get you. There’s always the rum. Rum always gets you.

Bottom line: you will be gotten.

At Estereo, a new Latin-tinged coffee-and-cocktailing tavern that’s now open in Logan Square. Here’s the slideshow and here’s the drink list.

It’s from Heisler Hospitality and the barmen behind Sportsman’s Club and Pub Royale, and it’s an unapologetic ode to 1950s Cuban laid-backness. Its garage-door walls swing open to let summer breezes in, and an unvarnished, tough-as-nails concrete bar sits ready for anything you want to put on it.

In the afternoon, come for a café con leche or Dark Matter Chocolate City cold brew (served on tap) while someone completes your Buena Vista Social Club fantasy by spinning vintage Latin vinyl.

When it’s the middle of the summer and it’s muggy and you just want something tropical, rum-infused and frozen, the daiquiri awaits. If you want something muddled with Michigan strawberries, there’s the cachaça cocktail. If you want something with coffee and coconut-date horchata spiked with Italian and Indonesian liqueurs, yes... also that.

Enjoy, and may God have mercy on your soul.
