This is the story of a man named Gus.

And the hot chicken he started frying 60 years ago in Memphis to much aplomb.

And how you’re about to eat that chicken and sing its praises from the mountaintops.

Let’s proceed.

We give you Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken, a legendary chicken joint that’s decided to clone itself in Downtown on the bottom level of Peachtree Center. It’s soft-open as of today, this is its slideshow, and this is its menu.

Yes, Gus has won many awards. Yes, this is important. And yes, we’ll get to the part about how you access fried chicken now.

You’ll start at the Peachtree entrance of Peachtree Center. Walk down a flight of stairs. Then another. Then stop walking when you see a large room filled with barn wood and corrugated metal. It’s a little chicken-coop-y, but that’s probably the point.

Just inside is chicken. So tender. Skin so crispy and spicy. And fried pickles. Lots of those. To-go orders are an option, but we’d suggest the bar. Open-kitchen views happen there. A TV playing Braves games happens there.

And as soon as the license comes through, 40-ounce bottles of beer will happen there.

And you thought it wasn’t a classy joint.
