No, don’t tell her you’re on the Redskins’ practice squad, or that you’re in line to be Mitt Romney’s secretary of math.
Just make a reservation at 8pm. But tell her it’s at 7:30pm.
Trust us: there’s a tree swing in it for you.
Welcome back to Dupont standby Firefly, all renovated as a heavy-on-the-cocktails, woodsy retreat, reopening Saturday.
This is the casual date spot you’ve always known, but after a three-week renovation, it’s returned as something out of a Robert Frost poem: an ivy wall, a kitchen facade that looks like a cottage and lighting designed to evoke dusk.
And oh: the tree trunk. Yep, that’s still here. Only now it’s been adorned with the aforementioned two-person swing—exactly where you’ll want to take up while you wait for your table. You won’t want to swing empty-handed, however, so be sure to bring a banjo. Or just delve into the new cocktail list for the Firefly (gin, rum, honey, pine, yuzu) and the Listen How Parrot Laughs (gin, quinquina, vermouth).
Meanwhile, on your plate: mini pot roast, deviled eggs and some new bar snacks like pimento cheese fritters and oxtail sliders.
Wait a half hour before swinging again.
