Frog Legs and Steak Frites on H Street

None 4 Photos Le Grenier
We’re not sure how your last date went, but we’re willing to bet it wasn’t on H Street. It may not have involved a great bottle of burgundy. And it most certainly didn’t involve a pair of wooden skis and a tuba.

That’s all about to change, as Le Grenier gets set to open on Sunday.

From the folks behind Le Chat Noir in Tenleytown, this place is a bit like your crazy aunt’s attic: distressed wallpaper peeling off the walls. Old suitcases shoved under the stairs. Antique drum kits and brass instruments popping up everywhere you look. A box of SI swimsuit issues dating back to 1982 (oh, wait, that’s your attic).

Start with a glass—no, a whole damn bottle—of bordeaux at the soft-lit marble bar in the rear. But pretty soon, your thoughts will turn to classic bistro fare like onion soup, steak frites, crepes, even the occasional frog leg.

Our suggestion: repair to a table under the giant Coca-Cola sign painted into the brick (left over from the previous tenants) or at one of the two banquettes fashioned from antique bed headboards.

Don’t get any ideas.
