The Weekender
The Weekend Starts Here
The week is getting a last-minute bailout from the weekend.

THURSDAY PERKS
It's important to stay well-heeled in these trying times, so we're hooking you up with 30 percent off from
Gordon Rush. A good pair of shoes may be the best investment you make all year.

THURSDAY SELECTION
Serge Becker's trendy and much-delayed Swiss hangout has taken its time opening to the public, but it should
be better for the seasoning. So far all you'll get is lunch, but soon you'll be able to stop by for a
post-Esquina espresso...we think.

SATURDAY SHUCKING
The station's basement turns into a street fair-style oysterfest with dozens of types of clams, calamari and
oysters ripe for the picking. To work up your appetite, there's also a grand riding on the oyster-shucking
contest, along with a "beer shucking" sideshow—your guess is as good as ours.
411: Sept 20, Grand Central Terminal, Basement Level, 87 E. 42nd St (at Park), 212-490-6650 |
|
SATURDAY SALE-ING
This Americana-soaked label is clearing house with button-down shirts as low as $60, T-shirts at $22 and
unusually sincere straight-leg jeans at $75.
411: Sept 20-28, 831 Washington St (between Gansevoort and Little W. 12th), 212-242-3414 |
|
MONDAY CHEESE BAR
Raw mozzarella may well be the next fro-yo if this Italian mozzarella kiosk has its way. They've got a
pastry or two, but the main show is the buffalo cheese, served one golf ball-sized lump at a
time, and offering the perfect refuge from the Pinkberry hordes. 411: Opening Sept 22, Atrium of the IBM Building, 590 Madison (at 56th St), 212-355-2217 |
|
MONDAY ROAST
Pig roasts come and go, but our go-to rustic Italian date spot distinguishes itself with a rare-breed
200-pound Georgian sow, slow roasting all day over an open flame. Also, there will be fruit of some kind.
411: 1pm-Midnight, moves indoors at 6pm, Sept 22, 47 Bond St (between Lafayette and Bowery), 212-533-1932 |
|
WEDNESDAY RAGTIME
Tickets for Woody's jazz band may go for $100 a pop up at the Carlyle Hotel, but your best bet at catching
the auteur with a clarinet is his free, under-the-radar shows downstairs at National Underground. As for
running into ScarJo...you never know.
411: Wednesday nights, 159 E. Houston St (at Allen), 212-475-0611 |
