Here’s What’s New Out West This Ski Season

Another ski season approaches. It’s exciting. It’s also an opportunity to do a few things differently this year. Now, if only there was some kind of convenient resource detailing what’s new in the western half of North America... Anyway, until that exists, here’s what’s new in the western half of North America.

COLORADO

They’re Not Olympic Sports. Yet.

Two new sports to become acquainted with:
Skijoring: Put on some skis, attach a leash to your waist and a dog will pull you around the slopes.
Snow Biking: Instead of wheels, these bikes have skis. Don’t worry, it’s just like riding a bike. With skis.

CALIFORNIA

Two Promising New Parties in Tahoe

The first: Weekend midday soirees on the deck with live music, plenty to drink and some girls-in-snow-boots-type entertainment.
The second: Sunday football tailgate parties with big screens, beer and more of that girls-in-snow-boots-type entertainment.

There’s also skiing.

MONTANA

New Lift, New Slopes, More Skiing

Head to Whitefish, and take that shiny new lift on the north side of the mountain. It’ll give you access to four new runs, which means you’ll have a longer, more dependable season. It’s because of the way the sun rises and sets and... we don’t know, it’s just better now.

CANADA

And Now: News from British Columbia

Sun Peaks: These guys added 500 additional acres of ski runs, making it the second-largest ski area in Canada. No shame in being second.
Red Mountain: If you’re a ski racer, the new Legacy Training Centre can help shave seconds off your time. If you’re not a ski racer, be careful.
