EMPEROR OF THE NIGHT

Wherein You Raise a Toast to Emperor Norton

You have to respect a guy who just randomly declares himself Emperor of San Francisco. And seeing as Emperor Norton is the only person who’s done this convincingly, his 198th birthday seems well worth celebrating. With drinks. And cake. Tomorrow night. Just go with it.

MARQ’S THE SPOT

Vegas Invades San Francisco. Madness Ensues.

Super Bowl’s almost here. And while the traffic is unfortunate, there are some pretty solid perks associated with the city’s transformation. Like Vegas-based Marquee’s takeover of Verso, which starts tonight and runs through Sunday. Jermaine Dupri’s there tonight and Tiësto’s there tomorrow. Should be fun. Football.

Friday
Hey, Look, It’s Another Shinola
FAIR LEATHER FRIEND

Hey, Look, It’s Another Shinola

Shinola. You drove to Palo Alto and procured leather things and bikes and footballs from them. It was good. You enjoyed that experience. But, hey, good news: they’re about to open another one right here in town on Friday, complete with happy hours and bike rides and things. Nice work, universe.

Opens Feb 5, Shinola, 722 Montgomery St (near Jackson), 415-513-1640

Where You Go for Brunch. And Everything Else.
SEE YOUR GIPSY

Where You Go for Brunch. And Everything Else.

Meet Cow Hollow’s newest neighborhood spot, the Gipsy Darling. It’s got comfort food staples like chicken and waffles and burgers with runny eggs. It’s got a “Tipsy Brunch.” It’ll be opening for weekday breakfast and lunch soon. It’ll probably still make sense even if you don’t live in Cow Hollow.

Sunday
Pork Belly Burgers. So Many of Them.
BELLY UP

Pork Belly Burgers. So Many of Them.

Big Chef Tom’s Belly Burgers. You remember those. Yeah, the ones made with ground pork belly. Well, he’s doing Sunday brunch now at his brick-and-mortar spot on Howard with things like chicken-fried bacon, carnitas-topped johnny cakes and pork belly. Liking pork belly feels important here.
