Things to do for July 14, 2011

The Weekender

Back to the Future, Gypsy Beer and Flaming Skee-Ball

The weekend is your safe house from the week.

Thursday
Pop-Up Beer Party at Shotwell’s
THE WORLD ALMANAC

Pop-Up Beer Party at Shotwell’s

These local gypsy brewers are taking over Shotwell’s to introduce their blackberry ale. They’ll have a bottle-conditioned version plus one on draft and an exclusive keg of barrel-aged sour beer. Also: Wise Sons Deli pastrami-wrapped hot dogs and Chocolate-Covered Beer Caramels. And the pop-up beer party comes full circle.

Friday
A Shot and a Brew at Underdogs
SHOT IN THE DARK

A Shot and a Brew at Underdogs

The guys at this Sunset sports bar/taco shop are dropping weekday lunch and adding a late-night scene. So they’re pooling their resources into anytime $5 beer-and-a-shot specials (in addition to the $2 Tecate and $2 taco happy hour). Seems like you’ll come out ahead.

Mon-Fri, 4:30pm-2am, Sat-Sun, 11am-2am (kitchen until midnight every night), The Taco Shop at Underdogs, 1824 Irving St (at 19th Ave), 415-566-8700

Fire Circus at the Crucible
SIZZLER

Fire Circus at the Crucible

There will be no clowns. Instead, flame-breathing acrobats, fiery sword-balancing and fire dancing will be in order. You can try your hand at Flaming Skee-Ball and Pyro Putt. If you remember one thing, it’s stop, drop and roll.

Jul 15-16, 7pm, The Crucible, 1260 7th St (at Union St), Oakland, 510-444-0919

Saturday
Eating and Drinking Bacon at Bruno’s
ONE-TWO BRUNCH

Eating and Drinking Bacon at Bruno’s

Being the recovery meal that it is, brunch by definition demands hearty fare and a heavy dose of hair of the dog. Bruno’s new Brunch Drunk Love’s Maple-Bacon Pancakes and Coca-Cola Cured Ham Benedict satisfy the former. As for the latter, the bacon-washed bourbon War Pig and Mission Mary should be just enough.

Sat-Sun, 10am-4pm, Bruno’s, 2389 Mission St (at 19th St), 415-643-5200

Wednesday
Movie Night at Mister Lew’s
CINEMA PARADISO

Movie Night at Mister Lew’s

Already your go-to dive for strong cocktails, Mister Lew’s Win-Win Bar & Grand Sazerac Emporium is now your double-feature venue for ’80s movies and gratis popcorn on Wednesday nights. Next up: Back to the Future and Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure. The Sazeracs are implied...

Wednesdays, 9:30pm, Mister Lew’s, 441 Jones St (at O’Farrell St), 415-474-2284
