Stranger but True

Meet Welcome Stranger’s Berkeley Outpost

Going hiking... but the kind of hiking that is more of a leisurely stroll in some good-looking clothes.

We hope you’ve enjoyed this quick list of weekend activities that the new Berkeley outpost of Welcome Stranger will help you suit up for—it’s now open on Ashby. (See the slideshow here.)

Don’t expect the Victorian-flat vibe of the Hayes Valley original here. This place used to be a garage, and that feels right somehow. Grab a Filson bag, some A.P.C. jeans, a Gitman Vintage shirt, a Folk sweater and a waxed Barbour jacket and sure, you don’t look out of place in a (really nice) garage.

Before the year is done (kind of crazy that’s suddenly a time frame you’re working with), you can also expect some Napa cows to have become locally made wallets, belts, mug coolers and other useful leathery stuff. Some of which might make good end-of-year-holiday-gift kinds of things.

Nope. Forget we said that. Too far away. Life moves beautifully slowly and you’ve got oceans of time before you have to start thinking about any of that.

Better?
