Seventeen Again
Shirts, Boots, Watches and Other Sundries on Gough

You might not have an alter ego in the strict Superman/Clark Kent sense.

Which is good, because there are no phone booths to make that quick change anymore.

But really, you shouldn’t have to change in the first place.

And the goods here ought to help...

Welcome back Department Seventeen, your go-to store for clean-cut, handsome clothes built for office, cocktailing and bike-commute duties, opening Saturday in Hayes Valley.

If you made the trek to their sleepy little outpost in Russian Hill to check out the Uniform Wares watches or pick up one of their house-brand shirts made in SoMa, the new digs should look familiar.

It’s still the size of a really large closet. Only now, there’s a vague look and feel of being on the set of The Office—with two black mid-century modern armchairs, a vintage ’80s briefcase on display atop a wooden pallet and the wall covered by a black-chalkboard pegboard—oh, and the clothes.

You’ll spot their old favorites from the former store. But now you’ll have more options, including water-resistant chinos from Outlier that could double as bike pants, exclusive Al’s Attire work boots, John Smedley sweaters out of the UK and a few things for the ladies.

Stay focused.
