A place where you can grab a cup of coffee. Then fire off some emails. Then get a new tie, pick up a dress for your girlfriend and admire a sketch—all under one roof...

Introducing The Common, a new clothing store/café/gallery for heritage workwear and local labels that’s also equipped with coffee and art, opening Friday in SoMa.

When you enter the (ironically) minimalist space—with light fixtures crafted out of painted trash cans—you’ll first see some plywood tables and racks filled with shirts and jeans. So far, so simple.

But step deeper inside, and you’ll find something a little more complicated: basically, a blank slate for whatever you need the place to be—a virtual office at the communal table in back, a Four Barrel-appointed café with rotating food carts or an art house hosting various artists and bands at any given moment. In other words, you can do a lot more than just buy your next Pierrepont Hicks tie, pair of Tellason jeans or J.W. Hulme bag here.

Then, in a few months they’re planning on bringing in a barber for the upstairs mezzanine.

Better yet, the barber won’t be multitasking.
