Barrel Roll
A Top-Secret Party Den in SoMa

Lately, you've been hearing whispers. Muffled words of intrigue like "underground," "party" and "lair."

Allow us to tie it all together: there's a new underground party lair in town.

Meet Barrel House, your new top-secret rock/art den, concealed on an alley near 2nd Street and hosting hush-hush parties now.

We can't tell you the exact address, but we can give you some clues: it's in a three-story building that housed wine casks at the turn of the century (hence the name), and was then a speakeasy during Prohibition. Outside, you'll find a stoop with a subtle marking that…okay, we've said too much.

On the inside, stop by the wooden bar—the one offset by antlers hanging on the exposed brick walls—for a drink. Make your way past the scattered cowboy hats on the wall and settle in for a concert (from the likes of We Are Scientists or Wyclef), some stand-up, or the occasional screening of a flick like ski-guru Warren Miller's Dynasty.

To get an invite, follow them on Twitter or become their fan on Facebook, and you're in. If it all sounds a bit indulgent, it is—but you should know that everything (cover, drinks, tip) is by donation and goes to the artist's charity of choice.

You always thought your nights out should be tax deductible.
