Drink Here Before and After the Fox

A Hotel-Less Hotel Bar from the Team Behind Drexl

There’s just something about a good hotel bar.

The grand, old-school kind where you might find Fitzgerald or Hemingway ordering a second round.

The kind where everything around seems to scream, “I should send that attractive stranger a beverage.”

The kind that very closely resembles the Miranda, a new cocktail lounge from the team behind Drexl that’s not located in a hotel but would very much like to be. It opens next week in Uptown Oakland, here’s the slideshow, and here’s the menu.

Yes, this place has all the trappings of a classic hotel bar, minus the hotel. It evokes those time-out-of-place vibes with copper-veined hooded chairs, golden lights hanging from the ceiling above the bar and a salvaged registration desk complete with mail slots filled with letters and room keys.

That bar is a fine place to start your evening before a show at the Fox, or after dinner at Duende. Order a round of champagne to start, followed by a Marmont Millionaire with rum, Cherry Heering and spiced pear liqueur. Or perhaps you’ll opt for a Staycation, a blend of Pimm’s, falernum, ginger and egg white.

Who knows. You might even get some ideas for a staycation of your own.

Just... maybe don’t say that word out loud.
