A Cocktail Haven in Union Square

Big stuff happening this week.

Turkey. Football. Oceans’ worth of cranberry sauce. You may even celebrate Thanksgiving.

You might also find yourself doing some holiday shopping in that hub of ice skating, tree lighting and overall insanity known as Union Square.

And if you do, you’ll probably want a drink...

Say hello to OneUp Restaurant & Lounge, a sleek new cocktail den now open in Union Square’s Grand Hyatt.

Consider this your new calm in the eye of the storm: a handsome bar nestled in the second floor overlooking the madness on Stockton Street.

To get here, you’ll head up the stairs and cross a floating bridge flanked by a wine-and-liquor library. (Booze libraries always portend good things.) It’s all designed by the same people behind Twenty Five Lusk, so you’ll recognize the minimalist vibe in the teak tables, low loungey seating and filament lights.

So about that drink. Allow us to suggest the house whiskey—it’s 138 proof, made by Napa’s Charbay distillery, aged 22 months in chardonnay oak barrels. And, oh yeah, it’s served in a flask—always handy this time of year.

And in case this isn’t retreat enough, there’s also a private room called the Studio. It’s a crimson-hued lair that’s wallpapered with black-and-white images of rock-and-roll icons like Jim Morrison.

We hear that guy really hated holiday shopping.
