A Two-Story Watering Hole in SoMa

Five days and counting...

You’re embracing it.

In fact, let us recommend a place that’s equal parts bar/lounge as well as DJ-fueled dance club—conveniently located under one leak-proof roof...

Give a warm welcome to Raven, a nightlife epicenter serving specialty cocktails from the intimate bar downstairs and spinning high-energy tunes in the upstairs club, now open on Folsom.

Basically, this is the kind of diplomatic watering hole that straddles the traditional club scene that put SoMa on the map and the more intimate cocktail-den culture that’s been slowly, happily creeping into the neighborhood.

The dim filament lighting and padded-leather walls with antiqued mirrors lend an element of film-noir-level slyness to the vibe, even if you’re just drinking pints of Hop Czar Imperial IPA. But, for something stronger, allow us to recommend the house rum/black tea Raven—or the gin/Velvet Falernum/absinthe Velvet Death (a drink that sounds oddly comforting).

While the leather-lined front bar has an intimate appeal, on a busy night you’ll want to sneak through the spacious lounge to the back bar and quietly take over the elevated U-shaped booth. The whole area is sort of like an unofficial, bartender-occupied VIP room that’s still just part of the bar.

Then, if the night calls for dancing, you’re perfectly situated across from the back stairs that lead up to the club.

The disco ball is hard to miss.
