A Sangria-Fueled Date Spot on Geary

None 5 Photos The Social Study
Of all the neighborhoods, it seems like Lower Pac Heights is coming out swinging lately.

By all accounts, it’s amassing more worthwhile hangouts per square foot in 2012 than any other contender so far.

And now you’ve got another agreeable meeting place to add to the roster...

Welcome The Social Study, a library-like rendezvous that’s equal parts café, lounge and bar, now soft-open on Geary.

If your dad’s study and the cockpit of an airplane morphed into a bar—and then a DJ booth got tossed into the mix—you’d have the bones of this place.

There’s a communal table and a long wooden bar, but what you can’t miss is the bright-blue, tufted-leather wall equipped with disguised fold-down seats. So naturally, you’ll head that way, pull out the seats like you would a jump seat on a plane and settle in for the equivalent of a transcontinental flight.

Since you’ll likely stop in here after dinner at State Bird Provisions (assuming the date is going well), you might start with a pitcher of housemade sangria. But if you prefer to drink your dessert, try the cocktail that’s got Guinness, four shots of espresso and a drizzle of chocolate syrup—which assumedly pairs nicely with their chocolate-covered bacon.

If you swing by in the morning, you’ll be rewarded with Four Barrel coffee and pastries. And once they get up and running, you’ll be able to show up for movie night here and complete the double-header with a movie at Sundance.

Also known as the night of fold-down seats.
