Welcome back Harry Denton’s Starlight Room, a landmark penthouse club atop the Sir Francis Drake Hotel that’s been restored to its opulent prime, reopening Tuesday.

One of the oldest spots in the city (technically dating back to 1928 when it was the Starlite Roof), it probably dropped off your radar long ago. But given that they’ve ripped everything out, put in high-backed booths and overhauled the entire cocktail program, you’ll want to welcome it back into the mix—especially on those nights when only over-the-top will do.

You’ll still ride the elevator to the 21st floor, and you can still expect a fair amount of plush red velvet reminiscent of post-Prohibition art deco glamour. And since the near 360-degree views remain intact, this is a prime spot for sunset cocktails overlooking Union Square.

Because the list is meant to be a chronological history of the cocktail, you’ll be tempted to start from as early as the 1600s with a gin Starlight Punch and move to contemporary concoctions like the tequila and sherry La Perla.

And if you’re looking to take in the Union Square views, your best bet is from the newly tiled black terrazzo dance floor.
