A Rock-and-Roll Mansion on Eddy Street

Sometimes (most Tuesdays), your thoughts drift.

To a place with not one bar, but two...

It has a pool, cabanas with cocktail service, some fireplaces, maybe even a library with more than 7,000 records.

And it all feels very Palm Springs 1977...

Welcome Chambers Eat + Drink, a posh, pool-equipped 1970s rock-and-roll den decked out for your dining and cocktailing pleasure, opening today in the Phoenix Hotel.

There’s no sign out front, so look for big wooden doors, push through, leave the gritty streets of the Tenderloin behind, and you’ll soon find yourself in an upscale rec room with a flashy, mid-century modern club feel.

You’ll enter into the dining room, which is furnished—as all good dining rooms are—with its own bar. If you like being in libraries (in this case, where books are replaced by records), stay here and slide into the lumberjack flannel or faux cowhide booths, and order small plates like the P.B.L.T. (where the P.B. stands for pork belly), or the larger Lamb Shank.

You could also beeline to the marble-topped main bar for cocktails like Drink #5 (Mezcal Paloma) or the Drink #10 (Blood and Sand). Then take over a section of the tufted, leather wraparound sofa.

Of course, when the weather’s cooperating (which includes when the heat lamps are on full blast), head straight to the poolside cabanas and go from there.

Poolside cabanas win every time.
