You'll go to great lengths for a good beer.

And while invading Munich isn't out of the question, allow us to first suggest a quick jaunt across the bay.

Introducing Mill Valley Beerworks Brewery & Beer Café, a new sanctuary for fresh brewed and bottled beer in the form of a European-style brew haus, now open in Mill Valley.

From the moment you step inside this spartan locale, you'll sense the singular focus: beer. The longest wall is stocked with close to 100 microbrews by the bottle from as far as Bavaria and as close as the Russian River, the bar has 10 beers on tap, and there are four fermentation tanks full of brews in the making. And, naturally, all that beer calls for beer-centric edibles like homemade pretzels and salumi.

Take over the long pine table conveniently situated under the wall of bottled brews for easy access, or settle deeper inside at the elevated communal table across from the bar to get closer to the brew tanks. Start with a Green Flash Grand Cru Belgian Dark—or, if you're especially thirsty, try the Chimay Blue in a 3,000 mL double magnum (the equivalent of four wine bottles).

When they start brewing in the next week or two, expect a constant rotation of four house beers like a Kölsch, unhopped gruit and experimental creations like juniper saison.

A little experimentation never hurts...
