Wine Away
Healdsburg's Speakeasy Wine Bar

Your grandfather was not a bootlegger. (As far as we know.)

And we're not going to hold that against you.

But we've found somebody whose grandpappy did deal in illegal hooch. And he seems to have inherited a taste for the underground...

Introducing Prohibition Speakeasy Wine Club, a secret lair pouring rare, cult, Sonoma County wines, wine cocktails and craft brews with a hint of 1920s bootlegging intrigue, opening today in Healdsburg.

Essentially, this bar—brought to you by the Roaring '20s-obsessed bootlegger grandson and his wife—is perfect for capping off a day of wine tasting in Dry Creek with some hard-to-get, under-the-radar labels.

To get inside, enter what looks like a small wine shop, pass all the usual paraphernalia, and head straight to the 1930s phone booth. Step in, lift the receiver (no need for passwords), and watch as the rear panel of the booth slowly swings open to reveal the inner sanctum.

Slip into the dimly lit room—complete with exposed brick, rows of wine bottles everywhere and wine-barrel-topped tables—and start with glasses of Williams Selyem or Kistler poured from the custom taps conveniently set up under the rifle hanging on the bar (a speakeasy staple). Move on to wine cocktails like the merlot-spiked Bogart Breeze, or beer like Speakeasy's Prohibition Ale.

And if you feel like some gin, you can always try the bathtub.
