That Labor Day weekend of yours might be tough to top.

...

Oh, wait. Never mind.

We’ve somehow neglected to mention the reopening of Joseph Phelps Vineyards. It’s one of Napa’s oldest wineries and one of Napa’s newest wineries at the same time, and they’re accepting tasting room reservations now. (Take a peek here.)

Let’s catch you up.

The Building
Then: The year was 1974. Napa wasn’t Napa yet. So this was primarily a winemaking facility, with the exception of one small tasting room. Poor thing.
Now: After closing in 2014, they’ve reopened with the same pleasantly barnlike facade. But now there are eight tasting salons (plus that terrace down there). Wine-related mic drop.

The Terrace
Then: A relatively nondescript tasting area overlooking the vineyards.
Now: It’s been expanded, and filled in with cushioned chairs and tables. Also, tastings on the terrace are now mano a mano. Which we understand is Spanish for “like, super private.”

The Tastings
Then: They consisted of four appointment-only “Exceptional Wine Experiences.”
Now: There’re those, plus a new one highlighting single-vineyard products and wine-and-cheese pairings on weekends.

The Wine
Then: Nobody left without trying the current Insignia blend.
Now: Nobody leaves without trying the current Insignia blend.

So maybe don’t do the opposite of that.
