Adults-Only Sleepovers at the Academy

UD - Academy Sleepovers No pressure or anything, but maybe it’s time for you to shake up your weekend.

One idea: sleep next to an albino alligator...

Introducing Academy Sleepovers, an adults-only overnight shindig under the living roof of the California Academy of Sciences, accepting reservations for June 4 and private parties now.

Once night falls, the Academy—like most things after dark—becomes an entirely different beast. (But not in a Night at the Museum sort of way, since the 38,000 penguins, alligators, snakes and other creatures are already alive.)

It all starts once the museum closes, at which point you and 300 new pals will have your run of the building, from the rooftop down to the aquarium. A good starting place will be at the Swamp Bar with a martini or two. From there, you can channel Borneo and Madagascar while dodging the free-flying birds in the rainforest biosphere, watch the penguins in the African Hall or catch the midnight movie in the planetarium.

There will be four designated sleeping areas, including the swamp at eye-level with Claude, the albino alligator, who’ll be sleeping next to you (separated by a 4.5-inch window) if you choose to actually sleep.

And if June 4 doesn’t work, you can set up your own private sleepover and customize it to your liking.

Yes, Claude will still be there.
