Water World
Taking a Dip at Francis Ford Coppola’s Place
Life isn’t always like the movies.
Except when you’re a famous director with a winery who decides to build a replica set of one of your most
famous films.
Then it’s exactly like the movies. And you’re invited.
Behold, the
Pools at Francis Ford Coppola Winery, a water-focused sanctuary of pools, with bocce
courts and a full replica of the band shell from
Godfather II, opening today in Geyserville.
Bringing a bit more Hollywood to Alexander Valley, the pool grounds—with the boardwalk-esque patio and
long row of cabines—have a theme-park vibe like a movie set of 1950’s Coney Island. In addition to being
a throwback of sorts, there are a few touches of
The Godfather thrown in, like the main pavilion,
which is a replica of the Lake Tahoe band shell from
Godfather II.
All of this means that while you’ve come here to get all the wine you can drink, grilled meats at Rustic
Restaurant and a glimpse of the movie gallery displaying Francis’ authentic movie memorabilia (including
three of his Oscars), you can also pretend that you’ve jetted back east to an Atlantic coast beach in just
an hour’s drive.
Only now, you’ve got a heated pool and a shower-equipped cabine awaiting your arrival. Then all you have
to do is set up in a lounge chair where servers will bring you your cocktail of choice or wine and bites
from the pool café.
It’s the simple things…
