Churros and Burgers at Indian Springs Resort

After the mineral pool fed by geysers.

After a leisurely walk under the palms.

After a good mud bath.

You’ll really need to slow things down and relax a little.

Here to help—Sam’s Social Club, an almost offensively appealing restaurant from a Mina vet situated at Indian Springs Resort in Calistoga. It’s now open, and it looks like this.

You don’t have to be doing the whole resort thing to eat here. It’s got its own lot and entrance if you’re just passing through—just look for the rather barn-ish new two-story building. Sam’s is upstairs, and it’s oddly comforting.

Lazing fans. Teak tables. Big fireplace. Manzanita-shaded patio with an oak-fired grill that’ll be ready soon outside. Hard to be stressed out when you sit down at your table by the window. Put your phone away. There’s nothing going on that’s that important. World keeps turning.

People bring you fritto misto. They bring 1862s, with brandy, vermouth, sour cherry shrub and bitters. They bring churros and burgers and ribeye and pasta. (See the menu.)

They bring California wine, of course, and then more wine.

Unless you have somewhere else to be.
