New Jack City
The Mission’s New Grilled Cheese Temple

Well, you almost made it.

Sure, you hit the gym a little yesterday. Maybe ate some kale. Reduced your alcohol consumption all the way down to... slightly less than it was before.

It was a glorious run.

But today, we bring you something that could completely and wonderfully obliterate all those resolutions you didn’t really want to keep in the first place...

Get hungry for The American Grilled Cheese Kitchen, the second, bigger, cheesier outpost of the dairy-obsessed sandwich shop, opening tomorrow in the Mission.

Basically, everything you know and love about the original is folded into this place. Everything: the vintage-y Americana-inspired art (including the Rooster Zebra Contemplating Grilled Cheese... um, naturally), their iconic cheese-drip wall and, of course, signature sandwiches like the Mac n Cheese Grilled Cheese and the Jalapeño Popper.

But there’s also... more. A roomier kitchen. A longer bar. And more importantly, slow-roasted short ribs, deep-fried shoestring fries, made-to-order biscuits, more local beer like Pac Brew Lab’s Hibiscus Saison, wine from the tap and a flat-screen TV for game days. So... a lot more.

Oh, and if you want something other than grilled cheese (for some reason), swing by in the morning for house-baked bourbon-apple-banana muffins and espresso. Then, in a month, they’ll start dinner, replete with burgers, chicken fingers and sausage plates.

You can always resolve to shed some pounds in 2014.
